Corona Diaries – It’s a Chain Reaction

Corona Diaries – It’s a Chain Reaction #corona #itsallgood #Godisbigger #Nothingtofearbutfear I had this wild thought that if for any reason I found myself testing positive for the corona virus, I would start a blog called Corona Diaries.Since my body is Corona repellant and chances of catching the bug are almost next to nothing, I thought I should still write the blog. There’s so much info out there that if you watch the news long enough, you can start coughing.I am not suggesting burying your head in the sand to ignore the news. The virus is real. But so are the … Continue reading Corona Diaries – It’s a Chain Reaction

The rhythm underground continues

It’s been a year since I last took a significant trip underground. I have travelled underground a few times in the last year but they were short bursts. On this journey yesterday, I observed that not much had changed, the rhythm continued. It was the Friday of the half term week and there were a number of children with their parents. You could see their excitement at being underground, who knows when they would have the next opportunity? I was about giving up on finding any oddballs on board when I noticed the gentleman beside me gesticulating like he was … Continue reading The rhythm underground continues

Same old, same old

I haven’t been travelling much on the underground since I changed jobs in August. Took the underground today and realised that nothing much has changed: – carriages are still crowded and there are no seats so one has to stand for the best part of the journey. Never mind that this is past the rush hour – there are still few gentlemen underground. One seat near me became vacant and this young man dashed to occupy before I could make it past the mass of commuters getting off the carriage – saw this gentleman carrying his dog up the escalators … Continue reading Same old, same old

From mistake to solution

Had to go on an unfamiliar route yesterday. I had mapped it all out based on TfL’s guide.  Got there in good time. On the return trip I was quite confident and stood patiently on the platform. It was one of those platforms where trains on different routes pass through. I thought I was paying attention and as soon as the train arrived, I hopped in. Something kept nagging me to check the stops as we went along to be sure but of course, I got carried away with catching up on emails, what’s app etc. After about 15 minutes, … Continue reading From mistake to solution

Gentlemen underground

Three times on my way to work this morning, seats became available while I was standing. And three times, the gentlemen closest to the seats majestically sat down without offering the seat to me. By the time I get on the train on my way home, I have given up faith in finding a true gentleman underground. I get on and as usual, never minding the fact that it is late in the evening, all seats on the central line are occupied. I resign myself to hugging the pole in the middle of the aisle when this young man, suddenly … Continue reading Gentlemen underground

Tube strike

There was a tube strike last week. Well, a partial one. It affected certain parts of the central line. The initial plan was for parts of the central line and the Waterloo and City line. In the end, the staff of Waterloo and City line changed their minds and Central line was left to strike on its own.  In view of the fact that another tube strike is planned for the coming week, this time on all lines for 3 days, here are a few tips for getting around town: 1. Plan your journey using alternative routes. Use the bus, … Continue reading Tube strike

Drunk on Monday

Young lad sitting next to me appears to be drunk. It’s Monday and barely 7.30pm. With each sway of the train, he follows the movement left and right bumping into me each time he sways right. I’m getting ready for a quick flight if he starts throwing up. Finally, we reach my stop – sigh of relief. I quickly stand up, only to see him standing up as well. O dear.  Fortunately he uses the other exit. I keep my distance. He gets to the barriers, keeping very close to the lady in front of him. He pretends like he … Continue reading Drunk on Monday
